Match report 2015 SPC Taped Tennis Tournament - 90th defend their title successfully
After a shaky start in the league phase, 90th came back strongly to prove why they are the best at the Taped Tennis format of the game.
On a beautiful sunny day, Riders' captain Asad Syed won the toss and elected to bat. Haroon Idrees (3-0-15-2) showed cased perfect line and length combined with in swingers to topple the Rider's top order. Reeling at 29 for 3, Purathatil Krishnan (47 off 32 balls, 1 four, 3 sixers) and Avijit Shukla (11 off 10 balls, 1 sixer) rebuild the innings with a 50 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Krish was runout by a brilliant piece of fielding by Farhan Muhammad. Sami Rahmanzai (11* off 11 balls, 1 sixer), who has been dismissed only once in this tournament, helped Riders get over the 100 mark. Nohman Siddiqui (3-0-27-3) was the other wicket taker for 90th.
In response, Farhan Muhammed (17 off 11 balls, 2 sixers) and Shakeel Ahmed (14 off 16 balls, 1 four) produced a good start for 90th with a 26 run partnership. Abhay Sharma (1-0-14-1) sent Farhan back after he had scored 2 sixers. Haroon Idrees (15 off 16 balls, 1 four) put on a 25 run partnership with Shakeel before Purathatil Krishnan (3-0-48-2) dismissed them both to bring the match in Rider's favor. Ironically, Krish was also mercilessly punished in his last over for 30 runs by Sharafat (12 off 7 balls,1 four, 1 sixer) and then by Azeem Ul Haq (22 off 11 balls, 3 sixers) that put the target within comfortable reach. With 6 runs needed off 12 balls, Sami Rahmanzai (3-0-21-2), refused to give up, and bowled a fantastic over taking 2 wickets and giving only 4 runs. 90th achieved their target with only 3 balls to spare. A fitting nail biter for a final ensured that 90th were the undisputed champions of this format of the game.
