Simply Play Cricket - Biggest Cricket Org in NE Won By 6 wickets
Match report
It was an overcast morning with a better weather than previous weeks. The toss was another rare win for NCC. Sriram Surapaneni chose to bowl first. NCC was on a semi hot streak, on the other hand tigers are no pushovers, having won the tournament in 2013 and having NCC beat in their last two encounters in 2014.
Tigers started with the opening pair of newly acquired asset Praveen Injapuram & Kashif Akhtar. Sriram gave the brand new CA ball to Sannel Patel, who started the proceedings for NCC. Everyone knows that, Praveen either smacks sixes or gets out. Something unprecedented happened on that fine morning. Sannel bowled a maiden over to Praveen Injapuram to swung his bat so hard, people sitting in bleachers could hear the sound of bat crashing against the air. Sannel bowled very excellently to Praveen, giving nothing away. He was well supported by Avdhoot Paranjape on the other end initially. Tigers were 22-0 in 5 overs, which was a reflection of how good Sannel bowled with the new ball. Then out of nowhere, Praveen found his mojo and got into beast mode, punishing any bad balls and hitting huge towering sixes, making the fielders at the boundaries run far away from the boundaries to fetch the ball. Kashif supported Praveen very well on the other end, taking 1s & 2s and hitting occasional boundaries. Realizing the need to break the partnership, sriram brought himself into the bowling attack. Sriram initially got smashed by praveen for a boundary. Then he did what he usually does after getting hit for a boundary, pitched it short, something I’m not a huge fan of. But who knew what this bizarre tactic would have in store. As he pitched the ball short, all fielders on the boundaries knew they were in business, however, there was not much elevation on the ball, as he hit it hard straight into the Big Jamaican palms. Phil blake took a freak catch where he had just a fraction of second to react. Hence the big wicket of praveen fell at 67 in the 9th over. 2 overs later, Kashif perished as well. As Tigers were 2 down for 76 and just 4 wickets.
Krish requested someone from NCC to field for them. Sriram, being a good sport honored the request. This was a slight worry for NCC as NCC members are know to be Jonty Rhodes when fielding for opposite teams. The worry was soon an afterthought as NCC openers Minar Aware & Bishwoo Paudel started well. Minar in Particular, was thrashing the ball in every direction, which included a brilliant leg glance flick well over square leg boundary on to the jogging trail. Bishwoo played the anchor role and provided good support to Minar from the other end. It looked like the the openers would finish of the game for NCC. Then against the run of play, Bishwoo in attempt to hit Praveen, gave a catch to Jonty Rhodes, a.k.a substitute fielder from NCC, Sriram. Then came the mercurial performer and 5th highest run scorer in HCL this season so far, Aniket Sawant. While the catch was taken, the batsmen crossed, which meant Minar would take the strike and hence protect Aniket who just arrived to the crease. Praveen gave the next delivery good amount of flight which tempted Minar to clear the ropes again. The ball pitches, Aniket was ready to punch Minar’s gloves and say good shot, but Minar missed the ball completely, losing his middle one. Tigers were jumping and running around in celebration as Praveen was on a hattrick with NCC at 2-72 in 9 overs with 2 New batsmen at the crease Aniket and Deepak Navi. Despite the fall of wickets, the situation was not too bad for NCC as Required rate was not that high and as Tigers had 8 fielders. Initially it seemed like Aniket was on an alien planet, not being able to connect well, as he changed his bat twice. Deepak on the other hand was batting as if it were net practice. The Duo batted good enough to keep required rate within reach by running hard, converting 1s into 2s. While Deepak did bulk of the scoring, the role of JJ was played by Aniket, Defending full tosses, nudging short balls for singles. Deepak finally got out to Krish’s off break attempting to finish the game quickly. When Deepak got out, NCC required 38 in 5 overs with 6 wickets remaining. NCC has a reputation for making any match, win, lose or draw, interesting. Tigers sensed an opportunity. Sannel joined Aniket at the crease. As soon as Sannel arrived to the crease, he started hitting boundaries. Sannel did something in 16th over that Aniket was trying to do since the the 9th over. For the majority of the Partnership, the fielders were spectators, even Aniket was a spectator at the other end, not even needing to take a start when bowler bowled. With 5 runs needed in less than 2 overs, Aniket Tried to finish it off with a six, only to find the safe hands of Praveen Injapuram at Deep Mid-wicket. Phil Went in next only as a runner, as Sannel sealed a comfortable victory for NCC.
Without a doubt the man of the match is Sannel Patel for his breath taking spell to Pravin Injapuram, very reminiscent of Wahab Riaz’s Spell to Shane Watson in the World Cup Q/F, And making 30 runs in 12 balls.
