Match report It seemed like a really dark morning for cricket and the outfield was wet. But it seemed like the full match would be done anyways. Both teams entered the contest winless. On one side, you had the runners up from last year, Stallions and a demoralized NCC which was still dealing with the fallout from a heartbreaking defeat to Cedar Rapid Kings in HCL just 14 hours ago. NCC was supposed to have a strong line up for this match but at the last moment, Sannel patel suffered an injury to his already injured and re-injured finger and NCC’s new fast bowling sensation Shikhar was not able to make it, Shikhar’s void was filled by Pradeep Settipalli, a very dedicated team man, who will do anything for NCC. Stallions had their full strength team on the other hand.

Both captains went in for the toss, and after the heads/tails was called and call was made, NCC looked intently towards sriram, who smiled, which could mean only one thing, that sriram had won his first toss in this calendar year, it was a big deal. Hence, as a result, considering the wet outfield, sriram put Stallions to bat.

In came Vemu & Jaya out to bat. Avdhoot Paranjape started the bowling for NCC.
much to Stallions’ delight Avdhoot gave a bunch of wides in the first over. And the scorecard read 11-0 in one over. It looked like something was 200 must be on stallion’s minds. JJ bowled decently from the other end, not giving too many runs. Chasing a delivery outside off, Vemu nicked to Manish, a well worked wicket for JJ. After giving it some thought, Sriram brought Avinash Gurram, a well established superstar of OCC into the attack and he didn’t disappoint as he picked up Jaya’s wicket with an easy catch for Aniket at slip. Then came Peter Patel into the bowling attack. He bowled a very disciplined off stump line, not giving away too many runs. He finally picked up jalan’s wicket by making him nick one to Aniket at slip, it seems like c Aniket b Peter is the new c Gilchrist b Mcgrath. After this ecstasy period for NCC, there were Mohan Kanthi Reddy & Lakshman who took it upon themselves to re-build Stallions’ innings. Both of them ran like crazy, took risky runs and finished
them with ease, converted 1s into 2s. Lakshman in particular took liking to Avdhoot at point just in front of the puddle and took a bunch of singles there. The duo also found ways to get occasional boundaries with put pressure on NCC. Realising the need to break this partnership and getting back in the game, Sriram took a bold decision of bringing in the “loose cannon” Aniket Sawant into the bowling attack.

Initially, both batters played Aniket well, taking 1s & 2s, accepting Aniket’s generosity of wides. After 16 overs stallions’ scorecard read 98-3, a brilliant recovery from 40 odd runs for 3 wickets in 10 overs. Realizing that Stallions needed a score in proximity to 150, Mohan went for a big one but, his off stump was hit by Aniket. In the same over, Usman arrived at the crease which was a big worry for NCC. In attempt to steal a single Lakshman was run out by brilliant team work between Manish and Aniket. With the established duo of Lakshman and mohan gone, Stallions pinned all their hopes on superstar Usman. Avinash gave Usman an open invitation to hit him, Usman connected good, even the people playing match on the opposite ground started chanting six, but Deepak Navi, cool as a cucumber took that extremely high catch very easily. The last 4 overs were bowled by Aniket and Avinash who kept things tight due to assistance from manish as he stood up to the stumps to restrict the
footwork of the batsmen. In the end Stallions managed a decent total of 116-6 in 20 overs considering the conditions. Notable contributions from Stallions were Jaya 13(19), Lakshman who top scored with 29(34 balls, 1 four) and last but not the least by any means, Mohan 27(21balls, 2 fours). NCC’s bowlers despite giving lot of extras, restricted Stallions due to contributions from JJ with 4 overs 1-15, Avinash 2-14 in 4 overs, Peter 1-19 in 4 overs and Aniket 1-28 in 4 overs.

Sriram showed trust in Avinash Gurram who was playing his debut match for NCC to open along with the Pride of ISU, Deepak Navi. Vemu bowling for Stallions. Santosh Vemu is known to bring the new ball into the right handers. The very first ball of the innings went for a boundary as Avinash made his presence felt, then came Deepak Navi on strike who looked calm and composed like always. However, Vemu’s over turned out to be an anticlimax for NCC as Deepak chased a delivery outside off and edged it to slip where Usman took a sharp catch. With nobody padded up, the skipper sent made aniket scram and pad up who was the leg umpire. Aniket quickly padded up and went in to join Avinash with NCC 5-1 in 0.5 overs. Aniket and Avinash had a decent partnership with both picking up timely boundaries and taking 1s and 2s. Shiva Shankar bowled an excellent delivery, drawing Aniket into the shot and finding the edge of his bat. The score was 45-2 in 7 overs when JJ came into bat. JJ took his sweet
time and played a very patient knock which frustrated the stallions fielders and the scorers as well. The duo didn’t throw their wickets away, kept run rate within reach, rotating strike with avinash hitting occasional boundaries. In the end Stallions were tightening things up which made a great lead up to the final over with NCC needing 4 runs. Avinash took single in the first ball of the high pressure over being bowled by Jaya. JJ was on strike with 3 to get from 5. JJ finally decides to go for a big one, only to lose his stumps. A very wisely directed delivery by Jaya under pressure. With 3 needed from 4, in came the Six hitting machine, Francis. The stage was set up for stallions to pull off a miracle. But it was just a tease as Francis carried on from where
he left of the previous day, making the required 3 runs in the 2 balls that he faced. NCC won by 7 wickets and 2 balls to spare. NCC’s notable contributions were Avinash 53(55 balls, 3 fours), JJ 29(38 balls) and Aniket 17(19 balls, 2 fours).

Stallion’s bowlers were extremely disciplined as they managed to take it to the last over with Santosh picking up 1-27 in 4 overs, Shiva 1-22 in 4 overs and Jaya 1-20 in 3.4 overs.
