Match report Tigers vs. Riders - MACL T20 Leatherball League - Aug 17, 2014
Tigers won the toss and chose to field first. Rajneesh Bhatti (31 off 25 balls, 1 four, 2 sixers) and Phillip Tony Blake (44 of 24 balls, 5 sixers) set off by scoring at a good clip. Phil then turned the heat up by scoring 32 runs from two overs that established a great launching pad for the Riders batsmen to follow. Rajesh Kumar Panigrahi (66 off 38 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixers) continued that scorching pace with a nice display of batting that covered 360 degrees of the field. Rajneesh played some classic strokes as well, but the heavy outfield did not provide the value for those shots. Phil's power was evident from the towering sixers he scored in his innings.
Sriram Surapaneni (3-0-27-2) was the pick of the bowlers for Tigers with Naveen Alakunte, Praveen Peter Patel and Karthik Koppisetty picking up a wicket each. Riders set a target of 200 runs for the Tigers.
Tigers had a huge task ahead of them, but started poorly with Purathatil Krishnan being dismissed by a brilliant diving catch by Rajneesh Bhatti at long on. Mohammad Kashif Akhtar (17 of 11 balls, 1six) and Aniket Sawant (18 off 18 balls, 2 fours) settled down to a decent partnership of 33 runs. Naveen Alakunte (29 of 23 balls, 2 fours, 3 sixers) looked set to steal the show once again. Janmejay Singh Tanwar (1-0-0-2) bowled a maiden over in which he took 2 wickets and that sealed the fate of the Tigers. He got both Aniket and Naveen out in the same over. Towards the end Sriram Surapaneni (17 off 11 balls, 1 four) and Vamsi Reddy (11 off 8 balls) brought some respectability to the Tiger's scoreboard with some brilliant display of running between the wickets. Both were unbeaten in the end and they helped Tigers post 137 runs. The pick of the Rider's bowlers was Sandeep Rana (4-0-11-3) with Rajneesh and Vipul Sharma snagging 1 wicket each.
Result: Riders won by 62 runs.
Man of the Match: Rajesh Kumar Panigrahi for his 66 runs.
