Match report
Despite a late night shower, the the ground was almost dry, but the pitch was soaked with water. Keeping this in mind, Sriram Surapaneni chose to bowl when he won the toss again after a while. Sannel started the proceedings as planned with the new ball. Laxman Sriperumbuduru and Jalan opened the innings for the Stallions. Sannel bowled an excellent first over, giving nothing away. Then instead of JJ, sriram threw the new ball towards Aniket, who has had a miserable season with the ball. After a couple of deliveries down the on the legs, Aniket struck big when Jalan sliced one towards Sriram at point where he juggled the ball but took it on the second attempt. His heroics earned him another over. In his next over, he bowled a few down the leg, a couple of wide’s. Earlier in the week, Minar crushed Aniket’s toe in the practice by bowling a toe crusher. Not wanting others to feel left out, he cannoned one on to Laxman’s back foot toe. It looked like Laxman wouldn’t be able to continue. After rubbing his foot, putting on spray, taking a 5 mins break, Laxman decided to carry on. In the same over, Aniket struck on Prem’s pad resulting in Shiva Boddeboyina raising his finger. At this stage, Stallions were struggling at 20-2 in 4 overs. On the other front, Sannel kept bowling a very disciplined line & length, which included uncountable number of play & misses, not swing & misses, ending up with 11-0 in 4 overs.
After the brilliant start provided by the new ball bowlers. Sriram brought Ayyapadhasan into the attack. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to find his line, giving away a lot of wides. One ball where he did find his line, Jaya hit the ball towards Aniket at long off, which he dropped. Yes, you heard correctly, Dropped & Aniket in the same sentence. Did he just drop the match? Will that affect NCC’s morale? The question was answered on the very next over’s first ball where Peter Patel knocked jaya’s stump over. After a couple of bowling changes, JJ was brought to bowl leg spin. Usman played & missed a few, then he hit one well over the straight boundary, then it was an anti-climax a JJ got him out LBW. This was a big blow to Stallions and a big wicket for NCC as Usman can easily take the game away in a few overs if you allow him. There were just 69 runs on the board when Usman got out as Stallions had lost 4 wickets by the 12th over. Mohan provided good support to Laxman, hitting 4s & a similar six to JJ the way Usman hit. The duo rebuilt the innings and took the score into 120s. Mohan hit Aniket for 2 boundaries on the off side in his second spell. In attempt to hit another one off the ground, Aniket sent his middle stump cartwheeling. Aniket finished off his second spell, hence completing his full quota after a long time. Stallions, largely due to Laxman’s anchor role innings posted a challenging target of 143. Laxman’s innings was a true masterpiece as he did not attempt any rash shots. His innings included just 3 boundaries, all timing, in his 60 from 57 deliveries. He played despite a hurt toe. In NCC’s bowling, JJ & Peter took a wicket each, Sannel bowled tightly, keeping the scorers not so busy. The pick of the bowlers was Aniket who was slightly expensive with 3 wickets, bowled his trademark wide’s which even Glenn Mcgrath can’t replicate if his life depended on it.
NCC’s new opening batsman peter opened the innings with Deepak who was due for a big one. After a bunch of wild swings with the big lump of Aishi, peter finally connected a big six which ended on the inner circle of the opposite ground. At one stage Peter was the dominant partner in the partnership. Deepak finally got going and NCC was past 50 in 5 overs. This is the first instance where NCC has had scored 50 runs under 6 overs this season. After, swinging and getting a few singles & two’s, an edge flew off Aishi to the third man and 3/4th where Rohit took a well-judged catch. This brought Gaurav to the crease with NCC 54 -1 in 6 overs. Deepak at this stage was unstoppable. Gaurav played risk free shots, taking 1s & 2s and occasional boundaries, almost as if he was batting somewhere for hours before he went into bat. NCC likes to make all matches interesting. Fate as it seems, did not want this match to get interesting as a few catches of both were dropped at regular intervals. As NCC inched closer, running was beneath Deepak. Finally, NCC reached home easily in the 17th over (16.4) with 9 wickets in hand. Sumanth Ghanta was the pick of the bowlers for Stallions as he provided the crucial wicket to peter, but rest of the bowlers just weren’t able to contribute. Deepak Ended with 77 from 46 balls with 3 huge sixes & 6 boundaries, Gaurav Patil made 31 from 35 with 2 fours.
man of match -Without a doubt, Deepak for his merciless thrashing of stallions’ bowlers.
