Match report 2013 SPC PROKARMA CUP RIDERS vs OMAHA ROYALS FINAL REPORT:

After a tough league and semi-final stage, the two most consistent teams - Omaha Royals and Riders squared off in the Final of the 2013 SPC Prokarma Cup. (2nd time in a Row)

Asad Syed, the Riders captain, won the toss and elected to bat first and hope that the pressure of a runchase would work in his favor. The Royals captain, Roopesh Appani, began the proceedings against Atik Sheikh and Rajneesh Bhatti, the intimidating opening pair. Roopesh's mixture of pacy yorkers, well-disguised slower balls, and sharp bouncers are quite a handy combination and the duo played sensibly, electing to watchfully play out his opening spell (2-0-7-0). After three overs, the score was 13 for no loss and the Royals had the distinct advantage. In the 4th over, bowled by Abhiram Boyapati, Rajneesh stepped up and began to unfurl the type of straight hitting that has made him a formidable player for any opposition. Four boundaries in the arc from cover to long-on ensued, 21 runs had been scored in the over, and the momentum shifted dramatically.

Anileshwar Yarramshetty and VeraPrasad bowled a tight line, not allowing the Riders to get the boundaries they craved. Yet, for the next 7 overs the batsmen hustled the singles and never scored less than 5 or more than 8 runs. The Royals were not taking wickets but the pressure was building. After a 70 run opening partnership, Atik was the first to go, top-edging a steepling catch that OmPrakash Cheerla took off his own bowling while racing back towards deepish mid-off (30 runs in 34 balls). Sandeep Rana walked in and thumped a four and a six to deep midwicket in trademark fashion and amped up the scoring in OmP's second over which yielded 20 runs, including a full toss no-ball that was dispatched with disdain by Rajneesh to deep square-leg.
With the overs counting down, Sandeep tried to clear Roopesh at long-on but failed off Abhiram's bowling, bringing Sami Rahmanzai to the crease (19 runs in 13 balls, 1 four, 1 six). In the 13th over of the inning, bowled by Anil, the Royals struck a double blow off consecutive balls, first getting Rajneesh run out by Anatha while backing up too far. In his first season in Omaha, Rajneesh has displayed a big-match-temperament and his 42 in 26 balls with 5 fours was the latest in a growing list of accomplished innings. Off the very next ball, Sami was out feathering a thin edge to Ranadeer behind the stumps. With 8 balls left in the inning, C.S. Manish and Kranthi Kotla went after everything, scrambling for every run, and hitting Roopesh for a straight four and six, respectively, to bring the Riders total to a daunting 116 for 4 in 14 overs. Royals Bowling: Roopesh (3-0-20-0), Anil (3-0-17-1), and VeraPrasad (3-0-20-0) were the pick of the bowlers.

Needing to defend 117 runs in 14 overs, the Riders bowlers knew they needed to get wickets and get them quickly but the Royals openers - Kappi and Ranadeer - were more than up to the task. Ranadeer began proceedings by hitting Sandeep to deep cover for a three, then Kappi hammered a straight boundary off the next ball. Unfortunately, off the very next ball, Kappi tried to repeat his shot and instead edged it behind into the very safe hands of Manish. Inspite of the early wicket, Roopesh and Ranadheer were not to be denied and they scampered between the wickets taking 9 runs in each of the first three overs. 27 for 1 after 3 overs, 87 runs to get in 66 balls - advantage Royals.
The first ball of the fourth over, bowled by Atik, was fast, full, and outside the off-stump, moving away with the angle from the left-handed Roopesh. Uncharacteristically for him, Roopesh tried to hit it over the midwicket fielder and instead got a thick edge that traveled fast towards first slip where the keeper moved across to his left and snaffled it as it rose. (10 runs in 7 balls, with 1 four). Ranadeer and Sandeep Chinni continued the good fight but in the first ball of the 5th over - Janmejay JJ Tanwar induced a lofted on-drive from Ranadeer. Rajneesh stepped forward from long-on and calmly collected the gift. (16 runs in 14 balls). In the 6th over, Sami came to the party getting Abhiram caught brilliantly at deep midwicket by Kranthi Kotla, who took it after haring about 20 yards to his left. In the 7th over, JJ stuck a decisive double blow. First, Anand hit the ball to long-off where Asad took a catch running to his right, to atone for the catch he had dropped in the same place off the same batsman in the previous ball of the same over. To make matters worse, two balls later, Sandeep hit a short ball to deep square-leg that looked, for all purposes, to have had enough lift to clear the fielder but, unfortunately for the batsman, the fielder was Kranthi. Kranthi back-pedalled and calmly leapt and took a one-handed catch near the fence - like plucking a mango dangling from a branch.
With both hands firmly on the trophy, the Riders bowlers attacked with greater frenzy and batsman after batsman then perished, caught trying to up the score-rate even as the bowlers zoned in on the good length, hard-to-hit areas. The Riders fielders took every catch that came their way and the Royals were all out for 62 in 11 overs. All 4 Riders bowlers took multiple wickets.

Sandeep 3-0-24-3
Atik 3-0-18-2
JJ 3-0-13-3
Sami 2-0-7-2

With that the Riders won their second tournament of the year, this time staying undefeated right through. Moreover, nothing signifies Captain Asad Syed & his Team Riders to the extent of their dominance more than the fact that they made a clean sweep of all the individual awards on offer.
