Simply Play Cricket - Biggest Cricket Org in NE Lost By 3 Wickets

Match report Sriram Surapaneni, NCC captain, won the toss and asked ConAgra to bat. Purathatil Krishnan and Kashif Akhtar opened the batting and sedately carried the attack to the NCC opening bowlers - Avdhoot Paranjape and Aniket Sawant. Avdhoot was getting some extravagant in-swing and Krish, in particular, capitalized on it with a few crisp hits to the fine-leg fence. While Krish scored in boundaries, Kashif hustled a series of twos in the off-side to take the score to 43 in the 6th over. Krish missed a full ball on his pads and was out LBW to Aniket for 25 (20 balls, 4 fours). Aniket stuck again in his next over, castling Kashif who was looking to force the ball against the swing (18 runs in 21 balls with 1 four). Regaining his old bowling form, Aniket finished his outstanding spell on the trot (4-0-18-2).
This brought the two Naveens - Alakunte and Bandaru - to the crease. While Bandaru enforced the pace, Alakunte (by his standards) had a sedate beginning. Bandaru took a liking to Peter Patel and Janmejay Tanwar's bowling, forcing a few pleasing coverdrives off the medium pace of Peter while square-cutting JJ leg-spin to the point fence when the chance presented itself. When Sriram Surapaneni came on to bowl his off-spinners, Bandaru launched him for a flat, straight six but perished the very next ball in repeating the stroke, finding the safe pair of hands belonging to Amit Phatak at long-off. Bandaru's fluent batting represented his best inning in a some time and is a pleasingly ominous portent for the rest of the season. (33 runs in 24 balls, 3 fours and 1 six).
At the other end, Naveen Alakunte had a quiet start, with 5 dot balls and a single in his first 6 balls, followed by dot,2,2,dot,1,1,1,1. Typically, 14 balls for 9 runs is good going for most folks but then not many can follow it with what he did. 3 sixes and 4 fours came off his bat in the rest of the inning propelling him to an unbeaten 53 in 33 balls with the afore-mentioned boundaries. Sufyaan Hayath provided the perfect foil, carting Amit for a memorable flicked six that will linger long in memory. By then he had already taken two boundaries in his favorite region square behind the wicket off the bowling of Sriram and a four off Ram Shanmuganathan, who got a solitary over. Sufyaan was run out off the last ball of the inning going for a non-existent third run. (28 runs in 17 balls with 3 fours and a six).

ConAgra made 176 for 4 in the 20 overs.
In reply, Phil Blake and Praveen Injapuram played sensibly, thrashing the boundaries when the opportunity presented itself and running hard when it did not. Phil and Praveen targeted the off-side for their attack while OmPrakash Cheerla, Anileshwar and Naveen Bandaru tried to stem the flow. Phil was beginning to get his groove, having thumped 4 boundaries in quick succession, when Alakunte, in his first over, drew him forward and got him out. Sufyaan held onto the edge and also stumped Phil at the same time. (22 runs in 20 balls, 4 fours). Amit Phatak was quickly off the blocks and looked good for the long haul when he square-cut Alakunte's legspin. The fielder at point (sorry, I don't know his name) pulled off an astounding catch, racing many yards to his left. (5 runs in 4 balls). Gaurav Patil quickly launched Alakunte to deep long-on for what seemed to be a sure six until Omprakash Cheeral stepped in the way and took a great high catch. With Krish unable to stem the runs, Chintan Shah and Alakunte bowled in tandem (rarely do we see two folks bowling leg-spin with such control together). While wickets were tumbling at the other end, Injapuram scored boundaries in an arc from deep point to long-off, threading gaps in the outfield with great precision to keep the run-rate chuntering along at 9 an over. Vijay Ramakrishnan hustled a few quick runs to keep the fielders on their toes and when Soma came to bowl, eyed a juicy ball that he hammered to deep midwicket, where OmPrakash took a stunning catch while staying barely in-bounds snatching a sure 6 out of the air. (2 runs in 7 balls).
Janmejay Tanwar went in and waltzed down the wicket first ball and hit a straight six. The next ball was deposited one bounce to the square-leg fence and all Omaha traffic came to a standstill. JJ was on 10 runs in 2 balls!! All across America people started making plans to go to temples and churches as the unthinkable had happened. Unable to comprehend the immensity of the occasion, Injapuram took on Alakunte and that man - Omprakash - once again took a spiraling catch, giving Alakunte his fourth victim of the day (4-0-24-4). Injapuram's stellar knock produced 73 runs in 44 balls, with 7 fours and 3 sixes. C.S. Manish carted Chintan to the square-leg fence and then proceeded to run himself out in schoolboy fashion in the next over (7 runs in 5 balls, 1 four). In the meantime, as the stars stopped turning and the planets froze up, JJ continued his assault taking Chintan for a couple of fours and a six and looked set for yet another six when, would you believe it, another sure boundary was converted into a catch at the deep midwicket fence by Anileshwar who ran a good 25 yards to his left and clasped the ball at full stretch off Chintan's last ball. JJ's inning of 30 runs in 15 balls, 3 fours and 2 sixes was abruptly cut short and ConAgra was back in the game. 20 runs needed in 3 overs with 3 wickets left.
Aniket Sawant and Ram Shanmuganathan, took a liking to the faster pace of Anileshwar and Krish and two fortuitous strokes off the outer half of the bat to the third man fence by each of them brought the target within reach. Aniket finished it off by hammering a boundary to the midwicket fence to end the game. (Aniket: 14 runs in 6 balls with 2 fours. Ram: 6 runs in 4 ball).
NCC made 180 for 7 in 18.4 overs.
The entire match was played in a great spirit and with 7 batsman making at least 20 runs it featured some excellent batting. The fielding by ConAgra was top notch, especially OmPrakash's prowling presence in the long-on region.

For his outstanding 73 runs that ensured the successful chase Praveen Injapuram was selected as the Man Of the Match.
